Introduction to Machine Concepts with Robotics (K–3rd Grade)

This hands-on course introduces young learners to basic machine and robotics concepts through play-based exploration. Using colorful and easy-to-handle educational kits like LEGO® Education, Bee-Bot®, or Dash & Dot, students discover how simple machines (like wheels, gears, levers, and pulleys) work and how robots use sensors and code to follow commands. The goal is to nurture curiosity, teamwork, and early problem-solving skills in a fun, imaginative environment.

Level 1: Exploring Simple Machines

  • Objective: Understand the basics of how machines help us work.

  • Topics Covered:

    • What are machines? What do they do?

    • Introduction to wheels, axles, levers, and pulleys

    • Building basic machines using LEGO® or similar kits

  • Activities:

    • Build a seesaw, rolling cart, or spinning top

    • Observe and explain how movement happens

Level 2: Meet the Robots!

  • Objective: Discover what robots are and how they follow commands.

  • Topics Covered:

    • What is a robot? Robots vs. machines

    • Introduction to buttons, sensors, and movement

    • Giving simple commands (forward, turn, stop)

  • Tools: Bee-Bot®, Code-a-Pillar™, or Dash robot

  • Activities:

    • Create a path for a robot to follow

    • Play robot maze and obstacle games

Level 3: Programming and Problem Solving

  • Objective: Learn to give robots instructions to solve simple problems.

  • Topics Covered:

    • Sequencing steps (coding without a screen)

    • Debugging: finding and fixing mistakes

    • Working as a team to solve challenges

  • Tools: Screen-free robotics or tablet-based drag-and-drop apps

  • Activities:

    • Program a robot to deliver a “message” or complete a treasure hunt

    • Use story-based missions to apply machine and coding concepts
